Love Song (Elle Kennedy)

Rating: 3 out of 5.

When I found out there was a standalone story about the kids of the OG Off-Campus series, I had to get it! And the cover art is stunning, I love the pink-painted edges and music notes, so so cute!

Regarding the story itself, I was hopeful. It was nice to see the family ties of our MCs but it felt kinda confusing in the book because there were just so many adults and kids; it felt like a challenge to keep up with. I ended up making a mind map lol.

I really liked the forbidden romance between Blake Logan and Wyatt Graham. It was also very grumpyxsunshine forced proximity in the beginning, it was so fun to read. Then the romance scenes rolled in.

Sometimes it was a crush, but it was mainly lust. Don’t get me wrong, their agreement for the summer was just a fling and to end it and continue being friends when summer ended, but I really wish both of them could have talked it out more. It was comforting to know these characters found themselves through each other, but there were times I was about to scream, “JUST TALK!!”

And the surprise plot twist hurt me so badly. Kennedy went into heavy detail about the topic, and I could tell she wanted to implement her own beliefs about this sensitive topic into this book, but the words that the characters said in the moment and acted upon were very contradictory to each other. I understand that people grieve in different ways but to experience a miscarriage, finally wanting the baby and being distraught of the loss one moment, and then screaming at people that there never was a baby, was a lot. It felt out of character for Blake. It was so heavy, it hurt my heart. I’m sure hurting the readers’ hearts were intended, but it really winded me. I think the author should have put in some trigger warnings, seriously; it was traumatic.

I am not one to like endings, most know that about me, but I was hoping for an epilogue longer than some text messages. Did Blake and Wyatt get married? Did they eventually have another baby? Why was the bonus chapter just a different POV of a normal chapter? Lol

Also, note, the OG dynamic didn’t feel real. These people are in their 40s-50s and still talk and act like they’re still 20. Sometimes people never grow up, but surely, they would’ve acted more their age, especially since they had the years on them and their kids were close to their 30s. Sheesh.

**Garrett Graham girly to the end through ❤
