Spiral (Bal Khabra)

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Fake-dating, rich hockey player who wants out of the spotlight, but poor ballet dancer who needs the spotlight to land her dream role?!

This was a FANTASTIC read, I could not put the book down, despite my tired eyes. Khabra does a phenomenal job of introducing our characters, Sage and Elias, without overdoing it. I love how fiery Sage is and how reserved Elias is. They complement each other really well! Them at the beginning reminded me of the Grumpy x Sunshine trope or Black Cat x Golden Retriever vibes, I loved it.

I was giggling as soon as they agreed in their fake relationship to “not fall in love.”

There was spice in this book, but not so much that it took away from the plot of the book, especially since Eli swore he would be celibate after an incident four years ago, involving a woman paid to be interested in him by his blackmailing biological father.

Both characters had dreams for their careers in hockey and ballet, and they made it with each other! This is another example of you can achieve anythging, especially with someone by your side. You don’t need to make big sacrifices all the time — you always need love! Contrary to the message of La La Land, ha!

And I loved the wholesome ending — them adopting a child, as they both originally came from broken families, and wanted better than what they had experienced. My heart aches (with happiness), I loved it.

Will read again.
