The Mistake (Elle Kennedy)

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I posted about The Deal (Off-Campus Book #1) this morning, I know, and I read The Mistake (Book 2) today, so what?

No, in all seriousness, I wish I could give more stars, this one was EVEN greater than the first book.

I really appreciated the meet-cute, I was kicking my feet how Logan ended up at Grace’s dorm by accident. Another love: the effort Logan was seriously putting in to being with Grace, the vulnerability, the friendship, the security and protection Logan demonstrated for Grace, his and her friends, his family?! It can be really difficult to continue serving those who have hurt you, and yet Logan kept taking care of his addict father, all because he loved his father and brother. ANDDD another love: a love confession over the radio at the radio station Grace was working at?! So so romantic, my heart!

Something that I really appreciated about Grace’s character throughout the book, but more especially in the beginning, was that she knew how popular and who Logan was, but didn’t really care that he was a hockey player. And that really surprised Logan, sort of distinguishing her from all the other girls Logan has met in the past. I LOVED that detail. To me, it just shows that what you decide to put out to other people is what they know you for. If you make your entire persona about hockey to people, most will know you for hockey. Grace knew him differently, and I loved that detail.

Another microtrope that I love, and it was certainly in this story, was the nicknames. While everyone knows Logan as Logan, Grace calls him by his first name (John) during emotional, vulnerable, and serious conversations. Granted, she still called him Logan, and more often when his friends were around, but in the more intimate moments, it was John. I loved it, it was so sweet and it makes their relationship even more special, in my opinion.
